Creating high quality educational experiences for military-connected children.

The strength of America’s armed forces is rooted in the strength of their families. Our nation’s heroes face many unique challenges, not the least of which are the issues associated with high mobility, frequent relocations, and the stress of regular family separations. With more than 4.2 million U.S. military-connected children worldwide, Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC), plays a critical role in helping families, schools, and communities support military-connected children throughout their academic careers – enabling college, career, and life readiness.

MCEC is widely lauded for its impact. However, the organization faces challenges related to its funding portfolio. More than 80% of its funding comes from Department of Defense contracts. In light of significant fiscal spending cuts, MCEC ran the risk of losing nearly half of its revenue by 2016, which would be a clear threat to its long-term viability. That’s where Deloitte came in.

Through a pro bono engagement with MCEC, Deloitte delivered meaningful impact for the organization by bringing what we do best – the skills and experience of our people – to the equation. The result? We assisted MCEC in developing a more reliable and diversified funding model and an organizational approach that more strategically focuses its resources. Most importantly, as result of improved productivity, MCEC is able to get back to the business of helping military-connected children achieve educational experiences that prepare them for life-long success.
